Marian College will not return to the North Parade site
Following a geotechnical assessment of Marian College’s North Parade site, the Catholic Bishop of Christchurch has confirmed that the College will not be rebuilt on this land.
The geotechnical assessment confirmed that the North Parade site will remain at risk to liquefaction induced subsidence and lateral spreading.
Repair and rebuild estimates, including land remediation and lateral spreading eduction methodologies, are comparatively expensive because of the nature of the land.
In making this decision the Bishop is mindful of the strong tradition and links many families have with the North Parade site.
The North Parade site suffered significant land and building damage from the February 2011 earthquake, and, following this assessment, the Bishop is now undertaking a process of exploring potential sites for
a new permanent site for Marian College.
Marian College will be rebuilt and will continue to provide quality single sex Catholic secondary school education.
