Nazareth Community of Care retirement village and aged care complex is well underway

The Nazareth Community of Care retirement village and aged care complex is now well underway on the Sisters of Nazareth site in Brougham St, Sydenham.
The state of the art complex is a new development for the Sisters, and marks their entry into the retirement living market.  It is a boutique development that is interdenominational, but based on an ethos that reflects the Congregation’s values of Love, Compassion, Respect, Justice, Patience and Hospitality.  The Sisters describe It as a “Community with Heart.”
The expertise of the Sisters in providing high quality aged care services is well known across Australasia, and more widely.  The Congregation is global, and has a presence in England, Ireland, South Africa, USA, Australia, and Christchurch.  The Sisters’ ministry in Christchurch started in the early 1900’s, but the 2010-11 earthquakes resulted in the destruction of all the facilities on the Brougham St site – the aged care facility, convent, historic chapel, and various other buildings.
Despite this significant loss, the Sisters remained committed to staying in Christchurch and over the past four years have been planning a vibrant new care and support complex that is “built for tomorrow.”  Part of the land at Brougham St had been damaged through liquefaction, and the Sisters have invested in a high quality, high specification programme that has remediated the land to well above the required standard.
Mindful of the uncertainties that the earthquakes have created for many people in Christchurch, the Sisters chose to create a spacious development featuring 62 single level two and three bedroom independent living villas.  The villas feature a premium design, high ceilings, high specification kitchen and bathrooms, are age proof, and have indoor and outdoor flow.  All feature a tasteful décor, and a colour palette that is coordinated across the full development but also ensures each villa is individual and different from others. Stone columns and details such as stone mailboxes, a village green, thoughtful landscaping and wide roads complete the appearance of a lush, spacious village.
The complex includes an 80 bed rest home and hospital facility which provides a state of the art care facility for the elderly.  The aged care facility is a two level building offering large rooms with en-suites, and stunning views in all directions – to the city, to the Port Hills, to the Alps.  It is due for completion in October 2016.  A 200 seat chapel will sit adjacent to the care facility, and the convent will also be located alongside the rest home and hospital.  It will incorporate special features such as the marble altar and stained glass windows salvaged from the previous historic chapel.
One of the exciting features of the aged care facility is a very large internal courtyard which will be surrounded by a market place including a hairdressing salon, pharmacy, consulting suite, shop, café, and cinema.  Completion of the full development will also see the construction of a 20 bed dementia care unit.
The independent living villas are already in strong demand, with many residents already moved in. if you’re interested in joining this vibrant community, then please contact us on 0800 NAZARETH (0800 6292 7384), view the website www.nazareth.co.nz or come and see our display villas.  We’re excited to see the complex developing, but most importantly to see a community developing that reflects the mission of the Sisters and the Nazareth Way – ensuring that everything we do comes from the heart of who we are.
