Holy Door Closes at Pro-Cathedral

On Sunday November 13th, the Holy Door for the Year of Mercy was closed at the Pro-Cathedral at the close of the 5.30pm Mass.
An overflowing church gathered to pass through the Holy Door one last time before it was officially closed by the Diocesan Administrator, Fr Rick Loughnan.
Preceding Mass, over 100 people gathered at 3pm for the chaplet of Divine Mercy and Eucharistic Adoration until 5pm.
Eight priests heard confessions from 3.15pm until 4.45pm. At the start of Mass Fr Rick said that the Jubilee Year of Mercy had been a “wonderful time of Grace and mercy”. Fr Rick also imparted the Papal blessing upon the congregation at the end of Mass.
Holy Doors were also closed in Akaroa, Timaru, Greymouth and Amberley. Pope Francis will close the Holy Door at St Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican on Sunday November 20.
During this Year of Mercy, Holy Doors all around the world have been ‘Doors of Mercy through which pilgrims have “experienced the love of God who consoles, pardons, and instils hope.”
